Job Description

The Port of London Authority (PLA) are the Custodians of the tidal Thames.  A Trust Port, our goal is to hand the tidal Thames on to future generations in a better condition.  Central to our work is the Thames Vision 2035, the 20-year development plan for the river which focuses on increasing all uses of the Thames from port trade to travel, sport and recreation to cultural pursuits.

The river is the home to the UK’s fastest growing port and busiest inland waterway for passengers and freight.  The next couple of years will be particularly exciting for the PLA, as we create and host the first Great River Cities of the World symposium in London, refresh the Thames Vision and deliver a major exhibition with the Museum of London.

As part of a team restructure to enable us to deliver the new projects, alongside a demanding ‘business as usual’ programme, we are recruiting for a Strategic Manager (Publications & Communications) to take on the writing and manage production of PLA key publications, eg Annual Report and Accounts; speech writing for major events such as the Annual Stakeholder Forum; and the development of presentations. In addition, the Strategic Manager will have editorial oversight of our e-newsletter, Tidal Thames News and Staff Bulletin.

This role will suit someone who is attuned to a commercial business environment and has worked on key corporate publications. First-class writing skills are a prerequisite, with the ability to present complex information in an accessible style, and you'll need strong organisation and negotiation skills with the credibility to work at the highest level and manage key internal stakeholders.

To be successful in this position, you will need to demonstrate personal drive, positive outlook, a collaborative approach to work, flexibility, the ability to make the most of stories/opportunities and a good eye for detail.
