Serbia: Belgrade UK: London, Manchester, Belfast, Cardiff and Edinburgh Pay Band E Reports to Director Marketing, Digital and Communications Wider Europe Duration of job Two-year contract Purpose of Job: This is a strategic post that will own, lead and manage all communications in Wider Europe making sure that we have identical messaging across the board and that the way we communicate with our stakeholders and audiences across the region is unified, on brand and produces effective impact supporting our vision and ambition. This person will identify the needs and interests of the key stakeholders and audiences in the UK and organise a system within the region to connect these needs and the most relevant stories from our countries, making sure we have the same messaging and brand consistency. Also, it will directly contribute to growing British Council priority areas and building positive perceptions of the British Council and the UK. To lead on the strategic delivery of communications in Wider Europe, including raising the profile of the region’s programmes and activities in the UK, both internally and externally, achieving this by working closely with the central communications team and the regional marketing team. Also, this post will work closely with local marketing and communications manager in countries, build their skill and capacity level so that the relevant stories are identified and shared with the right audiences and stakeholders, both internally and externally. It provides communications leadership for the key regional colleagues, ensuring flow of consistent messages and contributing to building long-term relationships with all major stakeholders and target audiences. Context and Environment: In Wider Europe, British Council is facing a time of unprecedented challenge and opportunity, especially within the digital environment. The landscape of the region is changing dramatically: skills and educational prospects have never been more relevant in transitional economies where young people are struggling to find job opportunities; ongoing conflicts, like the one between Russia and Ukraine, threaten to destabilise the whole region while several governments are still not elected in fair and free elections. As the rest of the world and particularly the UK is looking at this part of the world, it is imperative that we develop an effective Role Profile 2 of 5 communications strategy to create awareness and understanding of cultural relations and are able to meet young people’s wish to make their voices heard and to improve their prospects for employment and a better life. We have ambitious plans to help us meet these new challenges and by 2016, our plans emphasise the need to better understand and interact with our audiences and stakeholders and increase the impact of what we do by telling our story more effectively. We are therefore looking for an experienced communications professional to be part of our regional and global team to support the communication of our work in Wider Europe. Main Duties and Responsibilities: ? Create and develop a strategy to engage UK stakeholders, internal and external and to ensure that the key messages of the British Council’s work are communicated effectively. ? Create and develop a regional external and internal communications strategy, bringing together core messages from the three Strategic Business Units, English, Arts and Education, to establish consistent, strategic and coherent messaging from the region to audiences and stakeholders within and outside the region. ? Within the regional internal communications strategy, to create and develop effective and engaging communications for the regional strategy team, especially Regional Director and Deputy Regional Director. ? Work closely with the central communications team and enable a flow of positive stories from Wider Europe countries in the UK ensuring consistency of message across all media including print and digital communication materials. ? Lead internal communications in the region to ensure that colleagues in the region are fully informed and engaged with the work and aims of the British Council. ? Own and manage our regional intranet and achieve high engagement level through weekly stories, articles and updates. Develop impact stories and case studies presenting evidence-based impact at country/regional levels. ? Work collaboratively with a diverse team incorporating, SBU heads, regional project managers, regional and country communication communities. ? Together with the regional digital teams, ensure digital content, for websites, social media sites, e-mail marketing, and online campaigns is created. ? Strengthen brand management capacity focusing on consistency, style and tone a of communication, quality in events management and ensure British Council brand compliance of all communication and marketing materials ? Build and lead a team of communication managers from across the region to effectively manage the flow of information in and around the region. Create and maintain an up-to-date calendar of events and work proactively with key staff regionally to ensure activities are promoted in an effective and timely way. 3 of 5 ? Work with the regional and country marketing and communication managers to ensure that communications and marketing outcome targets are met. ? Strategically and independently identify communications opportunities within our programmes across the region and lead the local teams so that these opportunities are realised in the form of TV programmes, effective PR that helps meet and exceed our broadcast and publications targets regionally. ? Provide analyses of communication and marketing activities and brand penetration. Contribute to monitoring and evaluation in respect of communication and marketing for the region and countries.
