Job Description

A new role with a long-standing, highly-respected global membership organisation, whose community works on developing scientific solutions to address global societal challenges such as the climate crisis, addressing sustainability and improving everyday lives around the world. With Scientific Innovation and Sustainability at its core, the charity enjoys a broad remit; to accelerate scientific innovation out of the laboratory and into industry, facilitate collaborations between academia and industry, support scientists, inventors and entrepreneurs at different stages of their careers, and contribute to the public understanding of science. The charity is a learned society – publishing scientific research, and has well established conference activities.

The PR and Content Manager will lead the PR and content function, building the organisation’s profile with target audiences, both public and industry,  promoting key initiatives and products, and raising awareness of the significant role that science and business plays in helping to address societal problems, from developing new forms of low carbon and renewable energy, such as hydrogen and battery materials to developing new medicines and advancing healthy and sustainable foods amongst others.

Responsibilities will include:

  1. Leading on content; working with colleagues and stakeholders to gather material, often sourced from complex science materials, and produce compelling copy and stories.

  2. Creating proactive PR opportunities and building and maintaining strong relations with target journalists.

  3. Developing and running a press office function.

  4. Overseeing the creation and delivery of a social media strategy.

  5. Building and maintaining relationships with PR and corporate comms functions across key organisations in membership.

  6. Providing marketing support on products and services including memberships, journals, events, awards and training courses.

Experience of devising and delivering impactful PR strategies is essential along with excellent writing skills and a keen interest in science with the ability to interpret complex scientific materials and produce engaging content and compelling stories.  With strong interpersonal and influencing skills, you’ll have the confidence to work with senior management and external stakeholders across the sector, and you’ll be highly organised and able to prioritise while working to tight deadlines.
